Susan Boyle Duets With Elaine Paige On ABBA Penned “I Know Him So Well”

Elaine Paige Susan Boyle IKHSWWhen Susan Boyle knocked the socks off Simon Cowell, she soon after stated that one of her dreams was to sing a song with her idol, Elaine Paige. Within days of the hubbub, Elaine Paige, who is not nearly as well known appeared on US Cable Network, CNN’s, Larry King Live program and gave an interview about Susan Boyle and said she would be open to singing with Susan. Now that dream has become a reality.

Sadly, the duet does not appear on Susan’s recently released album (which gets it’s name from the song Susan sang on Britain’s Got Talent, “I Dreamed A Dream”) but made it’s debut on UK television. The song selected for the two ladies to sing together is hardly an original choice, especially for Elaine. The duet selected was “I Know Him So Well” from the musical CHESS, which was a hit for Elaine Paige and her original duet partner Barbara Dickson way back in 1984. In fact, the song still holds the record in the UK for the longest running #1 song in the UK charts sung as a duet between two women. The song is a staple for Elaine whenever she goes out on tour and it’s a special song for ABBA fans as well as the song was co-written by ABBA’s song writing team, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus along with lyricist Tim Rice.

Dame Edna As Vicious As Ever At San Diego’s Civic Theatre

Dame Edna - My First Last TourDame Edna, the International “Gigastar” (upgraded from “Megastar”) from Moonee Ponds, Australia brought her fantastic show to San Diego’s Civic Theatre for the week of June 2nd through the 7th. I, along with a couple of friends, caught the performance earlier tonight. Dame Edna’s brand of comedy usually stems from the random selection of various audience members usually in the first couple of rows and interrogating them, or pretty much picking on them. And tonight San Diego proved to be a goldmine at the expense of the individuals selected to spark the comedy of the show.

One woman in particular, Beverly, seemed to bear the brunt of the bitchy humor, from the delightfully comedic answers she gave in response to Dame Edna’s line of inquiry. It started with her description of her home as being an “ethnic” home in Carlsbad, to which Dame Edna inquired if that was like a shopping cart. When asked what the home is made of, Dame Edna had a field day out the response which was bricks and tiles and the home is on stilts. Dame Edna first wanted to know if the stilts were to keep the vermin away and then wanted to know if Beverly’s home was a tourist attraction. It was a riot witnessing a comedy legend at work with such interesting and out of left field answers.

A few others in the audience were picked on throughout the evening, but Beverly proved to be the most entertaining of the bunch. At one point in the show, Dame Edna had a couch and a chair brought out to resemble a talk show stage and under the premise that the evening was being filmed for an HBO pilot, Dame Edna invited the people she picked on during the evening up on stage to be interviewed. She even had Carolyn, another woman she chose to pick on during the evening, sing a song to the audience proclaiming it to be a Susan Boyle moment.

Susan Boyle – The Newest Poster Child For The Law Of Attraction

Susan Boyle Proves Britain's Got TalentIf you ever needed to see a poster child for The Law of Attraction at work Susan Boyle is it. As April 11th started, the world outside of Susan’s hometown of Bathgate, a rapidly growing town in West Lothian in Scotland had no knowledge of Susan Boyle. By the end of the day all of Britain was a buzz with Susan Boyle and within days, the world is all a buzz with Susan. In less than a week’s time she’s gone from an unemployed, lonely woman with a cat named Pebbles, to instant celebrity even rumored to have been invited to appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show and in talks for a record deal with Simon Cowell’s record label all thanks to a song from the musical, “Les Misérables” called “I Dreamed A Dream”, Simon Cowell’s “Britain’s Got Talent” program on ITV, and the magic of YouTube.

Neil Midgley of Britain’s Telegraph described Susan’s unassuming appearance as a “podgy woman with a frumpy frock, a wiry hairdo and heavy brows” leaving the audience and probably the judges to assume Britain was about to be treated to a performance to be mocked much like William Hung‘s appearance on “American Idol” in 2004. With the audience snickering and the judges barely able to hold back their laughter at the notion this woman who wants to sound like Elaine Paige. Well perhaps it’s just better to watch what happened. Play the video below and witness for yourself what happened in seven minutes on “Britain’s Got Talent.”
