Hi Carolyn,

That's a very good question. It is because of the artificial sweeteners being excitotoxins. They are rotten for you. Saccharine and Aspartame cause damage to your brain. Splenda is the one that will make it hard to lose weight because it destroys good bacteria in your intestinal tract which contributes to matter not being broken down as much in your guts and it contributing to false belly fat. So generally they are to be avoided, but don't get me wrong, I will still have a Diet Coke on occasion when out and about because you can have it, you just want to avoid it as much as possible and sometimes you just don't want water and I don't always have a packet of Truvia or Stevia in the Raw with me to put into iced tea.

I just look at it as diet sodas are not the best choices available. I try to avoid them as much as possible but an occasional one isn't going to kill me.

Hope this helps,

Hi Ryan,

I'm on the Belly fat cure diet and I'm trying to understand the diet coke. Is the reason we can't have it is because artifical sweetners are bad for you ie. cancer agent or does it really make it harder to lose weight? I still have a hard time understanding why 0 calories can make you fat.

Hi Amber,

Yeah, the best way to order at In-N-Out is to do it in a certain order decide what you want to order, Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Double Meat , Double Double (the cheeseburger), or customize it "x" by "y" where x is the number of patties of meat you want and y is the number of slices of cheese. Then state if you want onions (onions/grilled onions/no onions), no spread, add mustard, protein style and you can also request pickles too if you want some.

I usually like to get 3 patties of meat because they are so thin, and I think 3 is enough to feel like a meal. However, I don't want 3 patties and three slices of cheese, because that's just a bit too much cheese. I think one slice of cheese is good enough. So how I used to order this was "3 x 1, with onion, no spread, add mustard & pickles, protein style" but found they always ended up a little confused because I didn't want equal numbers of patties and cheese slices. I found it causes less confusion if the order is placed as "Double Meat with onion, no spread, extra patty with cheese, add mustard & pickles, protein style" because that is how it's coded on the receipt. It makes you sound like you've ordered it a hundred times and they don't question it

Sounds like a decent Atkins meal from Mickey D's. The only improvements I can suggest to it are no ketchup on the bunless burger, and water instead of the Diet Coke. Still makes for a decent Belly Fat Cure meal.

Thanks Ryan, great post! What is the secret code at In n Out to order lettuce wrapped? Is it called Protein Style?

Back when I did Aktins Id go to McDs with my kids and get a $1 Double Cheeseburger no bun, $1 side salad $1 diet coke. Perfect Atkins meal. No diet coke for me anymore tho. They always served the burger in a salad bowl and I eat it with a knife and fork. Its good in a pinch.
