Haven't seen the movie just yet. But will do it soon. As being a Swede I am so proud for this movie to really happen. The original ABBA-musicians are playing the ABBA music. If you didn't know it yet, all ABBA members met up at the premiere in Stockholm a few days ago, showing ufp for journalists to take pics of them with the crew for the movie. When I saw a documentary of the movie on Swedish TV Björn Ulveaus compared Pierce Brosnans voice to Tom Waits' and he said that he loved Peirces singing in the movie. I think that the song "When All Is Said And Done" can be so awfully underestimated (sicne I got the soundtrack for the movie and have listened to each of the songs) when Pierce is singing it. If you ever thought of seeing 007 singing in the shower to any kind of tune I think you would want a voice like that of Pierce for Bond. Just husky enough to fit to one who has drank a few drinks in ones life. Meryl is really great and all of the songs sounds great if you take them for being what they are, a soundtrack. One shall never compare a soundtrack to the original songs. And remember how much better the movie "Walk The Line" felt when you knew Joaqin and Reese sang the songs all by themselves and not someone else with them miming. I think that if someone else would have sang instead of Peirce it would have felt really awkward and silly!

Just my thoughts!

Prudish Americans? What the hell are you talking about... I've seen way worse in movies and most people under the age of 70 are fine with this kind of thing.

Ryan, there's a guy on the IMDb discussion board who also saw a test screening in March and confirms that The Name Of The Game *was* in the film then.

You're right of course...I can't help being a fan wishing for more, you know. If ever there were an opportunity, this was it. That's all I'm saying.

It would be really nice, if after the initial release of the soundtrack, there were a release of the "incidental" arrangements used in the film

Ian, you're right. Both sets of outtakes were combined and all included on the DVD of A Bug's Life. But theatrically, they were released at two different times. Three weeks into the release, Pixar had a new ad campaign where they were encouraging everyone to see A Bug's Life again for the new set of end credits. It was a brilliant move and help sustain A Bugs Life at the Box Office. Afterall, Kids wanted to see the movie again anyway, and now the parents had a legitamate reason to take them again.

Cheers!

As Björn himself said last August when asked if they would write a new song for the movie "Everybody would think: oh, they want the Oscar."

(An aside: I think the two different sets of "outtakes" in the end credits of A Bug's Life were combined and all included on the DVD.)

I never saw A Bug's Life. So I have never heard of there being two sets of end credits for that film.

I wouldn't worry too much about B&B, and A&F passing up a chance to win the Oscar since they aren't out to win the awards, (as if they'd show up to collect the award anyway, much less actually perform a song on the broadcast). I think they're quite content to just sit back and collect the paychecks.

Personally, I think Benny's involvement in the production of the film is night and day from his involvement in the early days of the stage show. He's gone from only showing up because he's "had to" and now has worked hard to re-record the music for the movie. He's even gone so far as enlisting the help of many of the original players on the ABBA songs, and crafting them beautifully into what you'll hear in the movie, not just the proper songs, but all the wonderful incidental music.

Even though it would be nice to see something new, it would just steal the thunder from the movie, which is meant to be an adaption of a stage musical that has nothing to do with ABBA other than the use of their music to tell the story about a young girl looking to get married and discover which one of three possible dads is her father.

In order for it to be appropriate to be included, any new song would have to be sung by the cast of the movie, since it is a movie musical, but there lies the dilemma, if there were to be a new song written, and sung by the cast, it's automatically NOT an ABBA song. The movie is what it is, and I quite like it and whether or not has a song to be eligible for an Oscar really doesn't mean anything in the long run.

I'm sure Bjorn and Benny are quite content for this thing to make a bunch of money in the theaters then a bunch of money on DVD, then for the DVD and the movie soundtrack to be yet another set of item to be found at the merchandise stand of the stage show.

Oh well, I'll get over the disappointment. Somehow I always believed if ever ABBA were going to perform one more song for the fans, it would have been a surprise in the credits for Oscar contention--which I'm positive they would have won. Or, at least the release of Just Like That.

Hmmm....Even though there have been screenings, no shot of a real surprise by the addition of a song on July 18th, eh?

If they ever wanted it to be a real surprise, it would have to be left out of pre-release screenings.

A Bugs Life proved that a different series of credits could be added to a film even after the original release. If you remember, there were two sets of end credits, the second version with the ABBA reference.

Oh well, looking forward to the movie anyway...just can't believe Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha and Frida would pass up such a great shot at winning an Oscar.

Cheers!
