Added A Favicon To Ryan’s Incredible World

Favicon - Ryan's Incredible WorldRyan’s Incredible World has gained what is called a “Favicon.” A favicon is the icon image that appears on browser tabs and/or appears next to the search bar when you visit a site.

In the case of Ryan’s Incredible World, after figuring out what the little image is called in a Google search, I set out to design one for my site. It seems several of the sites that make them easily can convert them from several different graphic types, so it was just a matter of picking something. The first attempt I made I just used a photo of me to try out the process, but felt I would need to delete the background around my head if I was going to use that and since I’m due to take a few more updated skinnier pictures of me thanks to the weight loss I’ve enjoyed on Jorge Cruise’s Belly Fat Cure I didn’t feel like using a photo for my favicon.

I decided to add the stylized “R” from the font of the main title of the page. I had attempted several different looks, including doing a “RIW” however in such a tiny icon, the font the text is in, was making it look like “ROW” So I figured an “R” would just look better, plus I think it ties in better with my site (please leave a comment below if you like it or have suggestions on what you think I should use).

Test Driving the iPod Touch OS 3.0 Beta 4

iPhone OS 3.0 SoftwareI’ve had a few days to test drive the new iPhone Operating System (OS) on my iPod Touch and it’s been fun and interesting trying out the new software. I am currently on the Beta 4 version of the software which was released about a week ago.

So far, the new features like the search and being able to cut and paste have been pretty cool but for me seems to be of limited use my iPod Touch is primarily an iPod. I don’t manage a contact database on it, and I use it for rather limited Internet use, like some web browsing and checking e-mail. A detailed list of features being added can be found by clicking here.

I’ve really been impressed with the new and improved maps application. It now provides turn by turn directions and can even map you routes for a car, walking, and bus routes. Granted the bus routes have some limited application in terms of distances covered. They even allow easy access to Google’s street view images. I’ve been playing with that a little bit. Really nicely improved tool. Also the music player has been improved slightly in that the slider for the position in the song works a little more easily and they’ve improved how it handles audio books, such as a feature to repeat the last 30 seconds in place of the Genius logo.

Pandora Internet Radio – Best iPhone & iPod Touch Application

Pandora AppOne of my favorite applications that I’ve been using on my iPod Touch has been the Pandora Internet Radio application. Despite having a collection of over 12,000+ songs on my computer to put on my iPod at any time, I sometimes get bored with the music I already have. Perhaps it’s just the knowledge that there’s no chance of hearing anything new which creates the boredom, but in any case, sometimes random play is just not enough.

Well, the folks at Pandora have just the cure for the boredom, it’s their Pandora Internet Radio which is available both online for PCs and Macs to access through Pandora’s Website and the application they have made available for iPhones and iPod Touch. All you need to do is specify an artist or even pick a specific song, and Pandora’s Internet Radio will build a playlist of similar songs from similar sounding artists and you instantly have access to the world’s most perfect radio station, the one custom created just for you and your mood at that moment.

Wow, $1.32 For A One Hour Call From The USA To Australia

With the closure of ABBAMAIL, I decided to give former ABBAMAIL list and site owner, Graeme Read, a call. In the past when I’ve called him, I’ve used pre-paid calling cards to get phone rates as low as 11 cents a minute, which isn’t too bad from the United States to Australia. This time I decided to give Skype a shot, which was promising a rate of 2.1 cents per minute to Australian land line numbers for routing the call over the Internet. And the slightly more than an hour that I spoke with Graeme, only cost $1.32.

As technology advances, it gets to be quite amazing how things change. Had I have used a pre-paid calling card, at the previously great rate of 11 cents a minute, the call would have cost approximately, $7 between the connection fee and the time of the call. This was literally a savings of approximately 80%. Had I made the call directly on my cell phone without using Skype, the call would have cost $70 at 69 cents per minute, bring the Skype call a savings of 98%.

Bling! It by Vertus is Awesome For eBay

Transform Product Shots!
I’ve recently been trying out new software by Vertus called “Bling! It” which is a simple program that removes backgrounds from photos and allows you to replace the backgrounds to jazz up the photos for things like improving eBay auctions to profile pictures.

Granted, I am a user of Corel’s Paint Shop Pro and could literally do all this with the software I already have, but Bling! It is so quick and easy to use, and it automatically makes the output files the perfect size for putting up online that it’s a big saver of time that I could be done with a picture and on to the next one before I’ve finished removing the background in Paint Shop Pro. Don’t get me wrong, I love Paint Shop Pro, but generally when I’m looking to sell some of my stuff on eBay, I’m doing a batch of items at once and I don’t need such a robust program to do the images for my eBay auctions. The time savings I get by using Bling! It, translate into the ability to put up more items on eBay in less time and as they say time is money.
