Meeting The Ultimate Prairie Bitch – Alison Arngrim

Most people will remember Alison Arngrim as the wickedly evil bitch, Nellie Oleson, from the television series “Little House On The Priaire.” The show ran from 1974-1983 and since I was born in 1975 so much of my experience of “Little House” was in reruns in the early 1980’s when the show aired on one of the three channels my family had while growing up in the rural areas outside of Calgary. You see in Calgary, which sits in Canada’s Prairie region and the outskirts of Calgary didn’t look so different from the scenery of the show. Also Calgary is well known for the Calgary Stampede celebration where the entire city embraces it’s Wild West past and is home to Heritage Park Historical Village which preserves many Little House era buildings in a town like setting, so the “Little House On The Prairie” show didn’t seem quite so removed from the 1980’s I grew up in.

Browsing My Early Copy of Jorge Cruise’s Belly Fat Cure Book

Belly Fat Cure - Title PageYesterday, I braved the heavy rains that hit San Diego to visit Kim Barry, the wonderful lady who has been my contact at Jorge Cruise‘s office since my very first day on the Belly Fat Cure program. She’s the one I’ve been in touch with on weekly basis during my time on the Costco 100 case study group and ever since that group ended I still keep in touch with Kim. Every time I try out a new recipe I always keep Kim in the loop and I always keep a sample of it for Kim to bring to her any chance I get.

Well I haven’t seen Kim in a while so I had a variety of samples to bring to her. Kim was out of town the last time I stopped by Jorge’s office on September 2nd to deliver some samples of my “Almost Sugar Free Black Forest Cake” and Nanaimo Bars. I wanted to make sure Kim had a chance to enjoy them too, so saved a slice of the cake for Kim and it’s been in the freezer since September. I would have given it to her sooner, except we couldn’t quite find a day where she would be in the office that would line up with when I had a chance to head into San Diego to stop by.

Raymond’s book is an amazing book. I’ve owned a copy since it was first released and have given it as gifts, it’s a very wonderful and powerful book explaining the need for mentoring and introducing the concept of goal setting using Raymond’s MTO Technique. MTO stands for Minimum, Target, and Outrageous and together they make for the most powerful way I’ve ever encountered for goal setting. Just by applying this methodology guarantees some accomplishment on your goals whether you hit your minimum level or shoot for the stars and hit the outrageous achievement level.

ABBA: Let The Music Speak Is An Amazing Book

ABBA Let The Music SpeakThe most amazing book about ABBA’s music is the one called “ABBA: Let The Music Speak” by Christopher Patrick. This book which is subtitled, “An Armchair Guide To The Musical Soundscape Of The Swedish Supergroup” is exactly that in that Christopher Patrick is a musician and he is able to musically guide us through every song in the ABBA catalog from the perspective of a musician. Everything you could possibly want to know about the construction of an ABBA song musically is there.

For a while in the late 1970’s ABBA had shot ahead of the Beatles in terms of record sales, but John Lennon’s death quickly reversed that temporary unseating of the Beatles as best selling act of all time. Despite this achievement, ABBA’s purely Swedish Pop is often not given the same credibility as the Beatles achievement. Their music is often considered lightweight and bubblegum compared to the works of the Beatles. It hardly seems like a fair comparison. In fact at the time the Beatles overtook Elvis Presley as the largest selling act of all time, John Lennon was asked who he thought might overtake the Beatles and he stated, ABBA.

Mountains of books have been written about the musical genius of John Lennon and Paul McCartney all lavishing praise. And yet until now, few books have been written about the works of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, who arguably have written comparable songs to those of Lennon and McCartney. Unfortunately praising ABBA had a heavy stigma for years in both the media and in the public at large that it really seemed that ABBA wasn’t going to get the respect it deserves.
