Belly Fat Cure - Title PageYesterday, I braved the heavy rains that hit San Diego to visit Kim Barry, the wonderful lady who has been my contact at Jorge Cruise‘s office since my very first day on the Belly Fat Cure program. She’s the one I’ve been in touch with on weekly basis during my time on the Costco 100 case study group and ever since that group ended I still keep in touch with Kim. Every time I try out a new recipe I always keep Kim in the loop and I always keep a sample of it for Kim to bring to her any chance I get.

Well I haven’t seen Kim in a while so I had a variety of samples to bring to her. Kim was out of town the last time I stopped by Jorge’s office on September 2nd to deliver some samples of my “Almost Sugar Free Black Forest Cake” and Nanaimo Bars. I wanted to make sure Kim had a chance to enjoy them too, so saved a slice of the cake for Kim and it’s been in the freezer since September. I would have given it to her sooner, except we couldn’t quite find a day where she would be in the office that would line up with when I had a chance to head into San Diego to stop by.

In addition to the frozen Black Forest Cake slice I brought Kim a few squares of the Nanaimo Bars that have become my signature dessert that no one ever believes is sugar free. I had samples for Kim in both the regular and Peanut Butter varieties. These samples weren’t quite as old as the Black Forest Cake, my last batches of Nanaimo Bars were from just before Thanksgiving. And lastly I had a slice of my latest Sugar Free Layered Yellow Cake that had the Nature’s Hollow Sugar Free Mountain Berry Preserves as the fruit filling between the layers and some sugar free chocolate frosting.

Finally finding a day where I could get down to Jorge’s office when Kim would be there, I wasn’t going to let a little rain (okay, a lot of heavy rain, which is highly unusual for San Diego) stop me from getting down there to see Kim and give her the goodies. Kim asked me to give her a quick call once I got there as Jorge was busy filming segments for the 12 Week Belly Fat Cure Coaching Program and couldn’t be disturbed, so Kim met me in the lobby of the building and she had an unexpected present for me from Jorge, a copy of the book.

Page 14 of the Belly Fat Cure book features two photos of my blood in the upper left hand corner.I was very touched that Jorge wanted me to have an early copy of the book, and it was really cool to be able to hold the finished copy of the book in hand after so many months of being on the program and helping to edit the various drafts of the book. I’ve had the chance to help this book go from really rough draft versions all the way up to the last round of edits before being finalized and sent off to the publisher. Now, the book doesn’t feature me as one of the included testimonials, but photos of my blood did from the day I did sugar experiments with Jorge in July do appear. So even though you won’t see my face in the book, I’m there or rather photos from two drops of my blood are there.

My blood is featured on the page 14, opposite the testimonial of the lovely Michelle, who I was fortunate enough to meet when I stopped in at Jorge’s office on September 2nd. In fact, I’ve had the opportunity to meet a few of the folks featured as testimonials in the book, and all of them have been really amazing people. The folks I’ve met that are in the book are, Jorge Cruise on page 3 (he includes his own before photo too, so you can see he’s not always been the skinny guy he is today), Kim on page 11, Michelle on page 15, Kelly on page 29, and Jared on page 317. Each one of them are amazing people and I feel honored to know them thanks to Jorge Cruise’s Belly Fat Cure program.

My two copies of the book, the brand new full color final edition, and one of the early draft versions in black and white. As for the book, it looks amazing. The photos of all the food look incredible and the book is all in color, and it’s a wonderful step up from the Black and White copy I have of one of the early drafts of the book. I will certainly treasure both copies of the book I have, as the draft copy has been my handy reference guide since July. In fact it feels a little weird to now be referencing the final copy of the book with the full color spreads. I’m so used to the black and white photos.

In any case, I want to offer many thanks to Jorge Cruise for inviting me to be a part of the journey that is the Belly Fat Cure. It all started with the article I read in Costco’s “Costco Connection” magazine. It was an invitation to download a free report and an opportunity to apply for a case study group. I had no idea where that application would take me, and I stand here today 74 pounds lighter with a waist that’s 10 inches smaller than when I started. I am fitting into clothes I’d nearly given up hope of ever fitting back into again. I feel better than ever. It’s an amazing program that’s simple to follow and truly hasn’t been hard to incorporate into my lifestyle. It has been an honor and a privilege to be taught by Jorge this year and I am living proof the program is amazing. If I can do it, anyone can.

To get the book, it’s as easy as going to Amazon by clicking here. Pre-order it now and it’ll arrive shortly after Christmas. You have nothing to lose except the weight. The book is a small investment towards your health. Whether you choose to get the book because you want to lose weight, learn how and why sugar is so bad for you, or you just want to have your own copy of the two photos of my blood featured in the book, you’re going to enjoy the book. It truly looks amazing and it’s a bargain for the price.

    Hi Ryan:

What a cool website. Thanks for inviting me. My son and I could not be happier with this program. We are taking before and after and photos every two weeks of our progress. This book has changed my life. Also, being the wonderful Southern Roots cook that I am; I am having a blast with figuring out how to make my and my son’s favorite. My husband and daughter just have those metabolisms that can consume carbs and sugar with no problems, but my daughter is loving the Truvia lemonade/Zevia soda as a treat. My son and I have so much energy it is ridiculous! I feel like I am 15 again! Anyway, best!!

  3. Hi Annette,

That’s a very good question. I’ve never tried making the ice cream without the Maltitol syrup. I don’t honestly know.

However, I did look up a few regular recipes for Vanilla Ice Cream and they all seem to call for granular sugar, so I would imagine it’s quite possible to do. Although I was running into some recipes where the ingredients were cooked on a stove (I’m guessing to melt up the sugar) before being chilled then made into ice cream. And there were some recipes where the ingredients just got mixed together, no heating needed. So I’m guessing it’s all up to personal preference if you want to heat the ingredients or not before making ice cream with it.

If you do attempt to make it with Xylitol or Truvia I would love to hear how it turned out. I would go with Xylitol because it comes in bulk bags. I would imagine it would be a complete pain in the butt to open the necessary number of packets to get required amount of Truvia to replace the sugar.

It’s definitely a pain in the butt to get Maltitol syrup when both Amazon and Joseph’s are out of stock. I don’t know if you have a Whole Foods Market near you, but you may want to check there as well. The San Diego one carries the Joseph’s Maltitol Syrup (albeit for $4.99 a bottle) and it may be in more Whole Foods stores as well.

I hope this helps and definitely let me know how your ice cream came out.

  4. Ryan,

You’re such a kitchen experimenter I thought I’d pose this question to you:

is it possible to make the 4 ingredient ice cream using xylitol or truvia instead of malitol syrup? Amazon and Joseph’s are both out of syrup at the moment, and I can’t find it anywhere locally.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  5. Hello HippieChick,

Thanks so much for coming to check out my blog. I really appreciate your comments both here and to my review of the Belly Fat Cure book on Amazon.com. I will admit it was a lot of fun finding ways to adapt family recipes to make them sugar free. Admittedly I’ve only really worked with some of my mom’s dessert recipes as desserts are about the only thing on the program that are very hard to just buy something in the store that works for the program. Regular meals, it’s just stick with a protein and a smart carb choice, and you’re done.

I can certainly relate to knowing folks like your husband and daughter. In fact, I used to be a beanpole as a kid, nothing would stick too me and you could even see my ribs through my skin back then. It seemed no matter what I ate, it wouldn’t stick to me, then it all changed right around my high school years. I just spent way too long in denial about my increasing weight. In any case, it’s all coming back off now and I couldn’t be happier I found the program that works for me to get it off.

And I am really happy to hear about the energy excitement you and your son are finding on the program. It’ll definitely help keep you motivated through the program.

    Ryan
